Loebsack: Broadband access guarantees level playing field for rural areas

Congressman Dave Loebsack -- CROPPEDBy U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack
Iowa’s Second Congressional District

Last month, I wrapped up my Broadband Access Roundtable Tour, where I met with constituents in every one of the Second Congressional District’s 24 counties about expanding high speed internet access.  As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Telecommunications, I’m making broadband access in rural communities a top priority for the 114th Congress.

In the 21st century economy, broadband access is more important than ever to guarantee a level playing field for Iowa’s rural areas.  Access to high speed internet ensures that all of Iowa’s students can get a quality education, and companies have the tools they need to set up shop across the state.  On the Broadband Access Roundtable Tour, I heard directly from a variety of stakeholders, and am looking forward to bringing their ideas and concerns straight to Congress.

On a different note, I’m excited to announce that this year’s Congressional Art Contest winner is Miss Kelsey Stamper’s drawing “Navy Pier.”  The People’s Choice Award winner was selected in an online competition in which nearly 700 votes were cast. Stamper’s winning drawing, “Navy Pier,” was one of 50 entries from 12 different high schools in 10 counties. It will represent our district and stand on display in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

I look forward to staying in touch with you – please feel free to reach out to your share your thoughts and ideas moving forward.
