Loebsack: Electric bills may spike

Congressman Dave Loebsack -- CROPPEDU.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack
Iowa’s Second Congressional District

Earlier this Congress, I helped to introduce a bipartisan bill (HR 906) that would prevent a surge in electricity costs expected to hit family budgets this year.  Federal regulations that went into effect in April may cause a spike in electricity prices in more rural areas.  However, I’m happy to let you know that my cost-saving legislation recently passed the House of Representatives and the Senate as a part of a larger bill.

This legislation is just one piece of my broader strategy to boost the economies of rural communities across our state.  This includes fighting for the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), expanding broadband capabilities, ensuring access to hospitals, encouraging smart energy policies, and more.

Moving forward, I will continue working with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to craft commonsense legislation that works for Iowa.  I look forward to working with you on these important issues.
