Iowa Senators are making a demand of Congress

US CapitolA group of Iowa Senators have offered a bill to demand that Congress take immediate action that would benefit future generations of Americans.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 2 was offered last week by seven state senators. The sponsors are Sen. Brad Zaun (R-Urbandale), Sen. Jack Whitver (R-Ankeny), Sen. Amy Sinclair (R-Allerton), Sen. Randy Feenstra (R-Hull), Sen. Mark Chelgren (R-Ottumwa), Sen. Jake Chapman (R-Adel), and Sen. Charles Schneider (R-West Des Moines).

Their proposed legislation addresses a bill that was offered in the U.S. Senate three years ago, Senate Joint Resolution 3, and that was co-sponsored by U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA). They ask that the legislation be reconsidered in the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate.

The bill states: “[T]he Iowa General Assembly urges the members of the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives from this state to support a proposed balanced budget amendment, the same or substantially similar to that described by this resolution, by cosponsoring resolutions proposing the amendment in their respective chambers …”

Both the Central Iowa Building Construction Trades Council and the Iowa State Building and Construction Trades Council are opposed to SCR 2. No other organizations have made lobbyist declarations for the proposed legislation.
