Rand Paul’s Kentucky GOP issues as told by Jerry Maguire

According to a new report from Politico, Republican presidential candidate U.S. Sen. Rand Paul may have to make a very difficult choice in a couple weeks.

The Gif Shop LogoCurrently, according to Republican Party rules in Kentucky, a candidate may not run for more than one political office in the same election cycle. Paul’s seat in the U.S. Senate is up for election in 2016. His campaign had been working furiously with GOP leaders to have the rule changed, but it now appears that deal is falling apart.

Apparently, part of the deal was for Paul’s campaign to offset the “expense” the Kentucky GOP would incur (actually a loss of fundraising revenue) as a result of Paul running for both offices simultaneously. Some have suggested that would be between $400,000 and $600,000, which Paul’s campaign may not have, based on fundraising data submitted last month.

His poll numbers have begun to plummet in recent weeks, and last week’s performance during the FOX News debate left some Kentucky GOP leaders suggesting Paul isn’t ready for a presidential campaign. If the rules aren’t changed, Paul will have to decide if he wants to give up his Senate seat to continue an increasingly difficult presidential run.

The .Gif Shop staff said they’ve heard this story before, so they decided to retell it as only they can.
