In a press release, U.S. Rep. David Young (R-IA 3) announced that Des Moines International Airport will be receiving a $6,538,254 Airport Improvement Program Discretionary Grant.

Young said, “Congratulations to Des Moines International Airport on receiving this grant; this will make a great airport even better. I know [DMIA executive director Kevin Foley] is excited to get to work.”

According to airport staff, the funds will be used to reconstruct DMIA’s original runway, designated Runway 13/31. The 4,100-foot runway will be complete rebuilt in three phases over the next four years at a total cost of approximately $45 million.

The airport has been working toward a $400 million terminal reconstruction project, as well. That project is slated to begin in 2022.
